Linocut Print (open edition) by artist Morgan Bloom

I'm an Alaska-born creative who draws inspiration from mountains, wildlife, and especially the sea. My work honors the memories of collecting treasures on the shore, fishing for halibut out of Resurrection Bay, shrimping in Prince William Sound, and learning to fillet and prepare our daily catch with my family.

With a background in architectural design, my style bridges between technical and playful. I love to complement elements of drafting and composition with fluid movements reminiscent of the sea.

Story

A view of the Inn At Whittier from the harbor.

Every summer, my family puts out from Whittier harbor to explore glaciers, fish for halibut, net shrimp, and spend a weekend camping on the Prince William Sound. Leaving the harbor, I have always been awe-struck by the epic size of the inn, and grew up convinced that it was haunted. This building remains one of my favorite pieces of Alaskan architecture and is tied to some of my fondest memories.

Process

Hand carved linoleum block printed on 80gsm white washi paper with oil-based printmaking ink. Each piece of paper is hand torn with a deckled edge.

Paper Size - approximately 8 x 10 in

Image Size -  approximately 7 x 9 in

To Note

Due to the nature of hand carving and printing, each piece will vary slightly. This variation adds to the character of the print. Each piece is signed, titled, and editioned in pencil.
